Case of the Month

April 2007

Signalment:  Adult female rhesus macaque with a three month history of enlarged uterus on physical exam and increased bleeding during menstruation.

 

Gross Findings:

Abdomen during surgery. 

In tact uterus.

Open uterus with polyp (pale pink, pedunculated mass).

Endometrial stromal cells and glands within myometrium (adenomyosis).

Histopathology:

Mass composed of endometrial stromal cells and endometrial glands (endometrial polyp).

Small muscular arterioles (spiral endometrial arteries).

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Morphologic Diagnosis:  Endometriosis, endometrial polyp, and adenomyosis.
